The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) just awarded us our accreditation renewal! This is a special anniversary for us, this is our 30th year of being accredited!
What does this mean for your pet and for you?
This means peace of mind for you when your furry family member is in our care.
We are a member of a very elite group of veterinarians. AAHA accreditation assures you that our care is recognized as among the highest in the industry. We are one of the 12-15% of small animal hospitals accredited by the AAHA. This is a very special professional distinction.
The AAHA standards of care are comparable with the standards for human care. Unlike human hospitals, veterinary hospitals are not required to be accredited, but we went through the rigor of accreditation to safeguard the standard of care you expect. Our doctors and our staff exercise a level of dedication and devotion that meets, and even exceeds, the requirements set by the AAHA.
This level of care is what drives us at Carlson Animal Hospital; care for your pet is our passion. Our accreditation is a verification for you and for us that we are making lives, pet and human, better every day.
Thank you for being a part of our practice and celebrating with us!
What is AAHA?
83 years ago the AAHA, established a regulated standard of care for the practice of small animal veterinary medicine. This was unique at the time and remains unique today. AAHA is the leading source for veterinary care in the nation. Veterinarians can practice without an AAHA accreditation, but they do not meet the AAHA’s standards of excellence.
AAHA creates, sets, and continuously updates pet medical care guidelines. They develop position statements regarding controversial procedures and treatments. AAHA is the only organization in the United States and Canada that accredits companion animal hospitals based on standards that meet or exceed state and provincial regulations.
Why are we an AAHA accredited animal hospital?

What is AAHA accreditation?
AAHA accreditation is a testament to the quality of the care we give your pet. It is our commitment to you and your pet that we are consistently be at the forefront of advanced veterinary medicine (www.aaha.org).
During June we were evaluated on approximately 900 standards of veterinary excellence. AAHA meticulously designs the 900 standards to assess:
– Patient care – Pain management
– Surgery – Pharmacy
– Laboratory – Exam facilities
– Medical records – Cleanliness
– Emergency services – Dental care
– Diagnostic imaging – Anesthesiology
– Continuing education.
Accreditation is a voluntary process. Once we achieved accreditation, we work diligently to maintain it. For us to maintain accredited status for 30 years we undergo regular comprehensive on-site evaluations. Every three years the AAHA examiners visit our hospital and certify that we have kept up with the rapidly changing veterinary industry and AAHA‘s standards of excellence.
Just as an example, the AAHA sets the standards and practices for how we clean the floors of our hospital including the floor in reception, in the exam rooms, and of course in our surgical suite. This infographic outlines some of the requirements that we meet or exceed as an accredited practice.
Why does AAHA accreditation matter?
This accreditation matters for our patients. This allows us to consistently improve our patient care and client services, it also enables us to continuously grow and improve with every renewal process.
Adhering to AAHA standards ensure that we are striving to deliver the best possible medical & surgical care to you and your pet. Our team is committed to delivering the cutting edge of veterinary excellence. With our recent renewal, we are continuing our legacy of maintaining the quality of service your pet needs. We, Carlson Animal Hospital, have been an AAHA accredited practice since 1986. Due to the selectivity of the process, accreditation is not sought by many veterinary practices but achieved by few. We very highly value our accreditation; this is very important to us because of what it brings our patients.
